9 - 18 year olds

Level: Beginner Friendly

Develop your own fashion figure to model your choice of fashions using a range of drawing and painting materials.

Taught by Carol Seatory, BA (Hons), MA, PGCE. After years as a freelance illustrator, she returned to the printmaking methods she had enjoyed in art college: silk screen, relief printing, collagraph and monoprint as well as collage. She now works as an illustrator, printmaker, designer, also working with reclaimed textiles in the form of collage, clothing and furniture.

Carol is a trained and experienced tutor who runs classes for all ages from 8 up to university level. She will show students how to use tried and tested methods to draw fashion figures and bring their fashion ideas to life on the page.

Don't forget our online workshops

Our classes are open to beginners and experienced fashionistas.

*If there is a lockdown which requires The Fashion School to temporarily close, the term will continue online*

What we provide: The use of new and fully serviced Janome 725s sewing machines, scissors, tools and threads etc. Students can use free donated fabrics as part of our Circularity Bank, bring in their own or buy from our fabric shop.

What to expect:

We believe in giving substance and sustainability awareness to each sewing project by encouraging open and enquiring creative minds in a structured environment.  Each week we will give the children another aspect of fashion experience through an activity to give a solid base to their new found skill set fashion awareness. Please check the individual class details to see what they will be up to each week.

We will be working on sewing skills to improve the children’s technical ability, which will then be incorporated into personal projects.

All tutors will wear a mask as part of our 1m + rule if 2m isn’t possible

Your child will have their own fashion work station with all equipment, machinery, chair, table etc sanitised before each class.

Activities include:

  • Learning to sew on a machine

  • Drawing fashion ideas

  • Draping fabrics on a mannequin stand to create designs

  • Pinning and cutting fabrics

At the end of term they will come home with:

  • Design sheets, sustainable fabric awareness and technical sewing samples
