Upcycled Patchwork Skirt Workshop
17th - 19th August, 3 days
8 - 12 year olds
9.00am - 1.00pm
Turn fabric scraps into something beautiful in this creative Upcycled Patchwork Skirt Workshop! Using reclaimed denim and a wonderful selection of donated designer deadstock fabrics, students will piece together their own unique patchwork fabric before transforming it into a stylish A-line skirt with a zip fastening.
Throughout the workshop, students will learn how to design a patchwork layout, join smaller fabric pieces together, press seams, insert a zip and construct a simple skirt. They'll also gain an understanding of sustainable fashion and discover how textile waste can be given a new life through thoughtful design.
The longer you'd like your skirt to be, the more patchwork you'll need to create, making every project completely unique. Students can experiment with colour, pattern and texture to produce a one-of-a-kind garment that reflects their own style.
Previous sewing experience is recommended as there is plenty of stitching involved. As well as constructing the garment itself, students will spend time creating their own patchwork fabric from smaller pieces before turning it into their finished skirt.
