  • I'd like to book a trial, what can my child expect in the session?
Your child will meet the tutor, bond with the group and complete a simple sewing exercise as they learn on our fully serviced Janome sewing machine. They will also see what the other children are making. After class the parents will have an opportunity to discuss what their child can achieve in the term with the tutor.
  • I’m interested in booking one of your half term / holiday workshops - how can I do this?
We would love to see you! You can book directly via our ‘Holiday Workshops’ page: Chelsea Holiday Workshops Brighton Holiday Workshops
  • I'm going to be late, what will happen?
Our late collection fee of £60 if you are over fifteen minutes late. The late fee increases by £60 for each subsequent fifteen minutes. Our staff are mostly freelance and part of the late fee will cover their time whilst they wait with your child. Our classes start promptly and as your child will learn with the other children, they will be at a disadvantage if they are over 5 minutes late.
  • How can I sign up to your newsletter?
You can subscribe to our mailing list by clicking on the button at the bottom of every page. Just enter your details and you’re ready to go! Becoming a member of our community means that you will receive exclusive offers, and be the first to know about changes or additions to our schedule (including any upcoming events or collaborations).
  • Which model of sewing machines do you use? My child has the sewing bug and would like to buy one to support them!
Janome 725 sewist, Janome 230DC (good for under 12 beginners) and various industrial machines reserved for experienced teenagers.
  • What are the class sizes like?
We have one tutor for each 6 children and all children learn step by step at the same time.
  • Do you accept work experience students?
At The Fashion School, we only accept work experience placements from our current students. These are young people who have completed a term with us or attended a holiday workshop. If you would like more information on this, please contact ellie@thefashionschool-uk.com
  • My child is a beginner - can they still join in?
Of course! All of our holiday workshops are beginner friendly, so no prior experience is needed. Our weekly classes are also suitable for beginners, with the exception of our Fashion Lab Careers - which is exclusively for advanced students or those that have already completed a Teenage Fashion Lab term with us. If you are unsure what course to enrol your child in, we are happy to advise and recommend the most suitable one!
  • Accident and Emergency
In the event of an accident or an emergency, we will always call you to inform you of what has happened. If the accident is minor (such as a bump on the head), we will log this in our accident book, and you will take a parent slip home with you for your records. Should a serious accident occur, we will take your child to the nearest children’s A&E service. For London, this would be Chelsea and Westminster and for Brighton, The Royal Alexandra Hospital. Whilst your child is in our care, it is very important that you remain contactable for the duration of the class.
  • Can I discuss my child's progress and any concerns I might have about the class?
Yes, of course! Please contact Caroline the director on caroline@thefashionschool-uk.com and she'll be delighted to go through any concerns you have and what we can do to improve your child's experience. The door is always open!
  • Do you offer catch-up classes?
Students are entitled to x2 catch-up lessons per term. If your child will be absent for a class, please let us know.
  • Do you offer sponsorships at The Fashion School?
We like to reward students we feel have made an exceptional contribution to the community / industry with sponsorships at The Fashion School. If you feel your child deserves a free funded space, you are welcome to email us with further details about your child and their background. However, please be aware that a sponsorship is not guaranteed and spaces are very limited.
  • Do you offer any discretionary discounts or payment plans for low-income families?
We offer a 30% discount on our weekly classes for low income families, as well as a flexible payment plan to spread out the cost. To find out more about what options we can offer you, please email us at chelsea@thefashionschool-uk.com
