Creating, Connecting and Caring: Our Easter HAF Workshop

This Easter holiday, we had the joy of welcoming a group of energetic and creative children to our studio for a four-day workshop designed especially for families accessing Free School Meals. Funded and supported through our community outreach initiative and RBKC, this workshop offered more than just a chance to learn sewing skills - it was about creativity, confidence and connection.

Over four consecutive afternoons, our studio buzzed with laughter, concentration and a gentle hum of sewing machines. The mission? For each child to sew their very own gym/street dance bag using only donated materials. We were incredibly fortunate to have a fantastic selection of fabrics generously given by our community, including vintage Levi's denim, soft curtain offcuts and even luxurious Missoni print samples

The children got quickly stuck into choosing their fabric combinations, cutting out patterns, and learning to thread and use sewing machines. For many, it was their first time using a needle and thread - but by the end of the week, every single one had proudly completed their own unique gym bag.

The transformation over the four days was inspiring. We saw quiet children grow in confidence, friendships form over shared creativity, and the pride that comes from making something with your own hands. For families under pressure, the workshop also provided a safe supportive space during the school break - a time that can be especially tough without the routine and meals provided during term time. We provide healthy halal snacks and meals, (also cater to vegetarians and other dietary requirements) and a short exercise routine!

We are so proud of what these young makers achieved, and we're deeply grateful to everyone who donated materials and helped to make this workshop possible. Stay tuned - we're already planning the next one!
